About OTC

The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) at UT Austin is a bridge between the research community at the University and commercialization partners, ensuring smooth and fast transfer of intellectual property created at the University. In essence, OTC serves three distinct groups:

The research community at the University
Commercial partners in the marketplace
Society

Transferred technology adds to the universal body of knowledge and brings benefits to society. Companies profit financially from licensing new technologies. And exposing science to the marketplace brings revenue back to the University to fund new and continued research.

UT has been a highly prolific research institution for years. Remaining on the cutting edge of technology requires careful assessment and effective commercialization of the University's IP. This is the primary goal of OTC.
