In athletics, textiles, and areas of medicine such as skin pathology and forensics, full-body scanners bring efficiency and convenience to evaluating and documenting a subject's condition (e.g., skin wounds or bone injuries) and body dimensions. Types of body scanners include ones that utilize either laser stripe projection, patterned light projection, or stereo photogrammetry. Based on their composition, each system differs in price, resolution, and speed.
This novel invention discloses the creation of a whole-body imaging system that acquires the three-dimensional (3D) surface model and dimensions of the human body by using non-contact optical devices and stereo vision technology. It contains programs that perform 3D surface reconstruction (3D points), surface modeling (3D digital model), and body measurements (body landmarks, curve, circumference, volume).
This technology encompasses a wide range of applications, such as body survey for new sizing standards, virtual try-on and mass customization in the clothing industry, body surface area measurement for the determination of medication dosage, body fat estimate in human body composition research, assessing and monitoring obesity for public health, monitoring body growth of adolescents, size and shape analysis for plastic surgery, and animation in movies and computer games.
